I rarely watch television anymore. Aside from a few favorite sitcoms, The Science Channel, National Geographic TV and sports, I try and stay as far away as I can from watching TV, especially the NEWS.
The news is just loaded with depressing, sad and uninspiring stuff. The last thing I need is to fill my mind with what seems to be a non-stop cycle of violence, crime, child abuse, disaster and mayhem.
Now, I certainly liked to be informed and up-to-date, but do I really need to absorb this kind of bad news on a daily basis?
Certainly not, and neither should you…
According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day! That’s 28 hours a week or 2 months of non-stop TV each year! Over the span of a lifetime, that equates to more than 10 years spent glued to the TV (and it’s not that much better in some other countries as well)!
Wow! That’s a lot of negative programming, if you ask me.
And the newspapers aren’t much better either. They’re loaded with the same stories of doom and gloom as TV news.
But there is a way to fight back….
Why not start your day off with some GOOD and inspiring news? Not only will you feel better mentally, but you’ll also be in the right frame of mind to ‘make things happen’ in your life.
It’s no secret that people in good, happy moods are healthier, more productive, positive, upbeat and fun to be around. It’s also no accident that ‘happy types’ are generally more inclined to get what they want in life.
We can’t control many things in life, but we can do a lot to control our thoughts. And one way to accomplish this is to feed our minds with positive and inspiring messages on a daily basis.
I’ve just recently learned about a website that specializes in good news! It’s called the Good News Network – International and I think it’s wonderful. Each day, the site collects positive and upbeat news stories from around the world. And best of all it’s FREE!
On the Good News Network, you’ll find news categorized by family life, recreation, business, health, earth, civics and inspiration. Just one story could make all the difference in your day.
For example, this morning I learned on The Good News Network that one’s happiness level is determined by the following: genetics (50%), circumstances (10%) and intentional activity (40%) (Six Steps to a Happier Workday).
This means that we CAN make a difference in the way we feel. And what better way to achieve this than by starting your day off with a happy, positive and inspiring story?
The more you program your mind with good news, the better your outlook. The better your outlook, the more likely good and positive things will happen to you. Once the momentum builds, anything is possible.
Do yourself a favor and visit the Good News Newtork today….
